True Freedom Starts Within
When I talk about internal freedom, it’s alignment with our values. It’s the byproduct of cohesion between our own principles and the choices we make. It’s doing the next right thing over and over. It’s a way of life.
When I think of internal freedom, I always go back to my time working in social services in the jails. I met men who had spent most of their lives in a 6x8 ft cell, carrying the weight of childhood wounds, systemic failures, and past mistakes. Yet, despite their shared circumstances, there was always a clear distinction between them: the ones who chose to take an honest look at themselves, who faced their truth without excuses, found a kind of freedom that no walls could contain.
I think of them whenever I get stuck in my own BS. Some of those men would never walk out of those gates, yet they still overcame their minds. That’s real freedom. The kind that can’t be handed to you, bought, or unlocked by external success. It’s the type of liberation that comes from doing the hard work—looking inward, taking accountability, and deciding to live differently.
In coaching, we pause from the busyness of life to take an honest inventory of our thoughts and behaviors. We ask the hard questions: Is this working? Is this serving me? Are my habits and patterns still leading me where I want to go? Because without that awareness, we’re just running in circles, mistaking movement for progress.
Growth isn’t just about external wins like more money, better relationships, a fitter body. Those things can be fulfilling, but they don’t mean much if you’re still trapped by the same limiting beliefs, fears, or self-sabotaging behaviors.
True freedom starts within.
My question for you: is the pain great enough? Are you willing to take an honest look at yourself? To break free from the patterns keeping you stuck? Because the only thing truly standing between you and the life you want, is you.
