The Simple Weekly Habit That’s Strengthening My Marriage

It’s no secret that sustaining connection in a committed relationship takes effort. We’ve all experienced moments of feeling disconnected, drifting apart, or wondering, What are we even doing here?

If you’ve been there, you’re not alone. But here’s the good news, connection can be nurtured, and small, intentional habits can make a world of difference.

Recently, my husband and I started a simple weekly sit-down that we call our “Power Hour” (or Love Lab, Love Huddle—call it whatever you want). And let me tell you, it’s been a game changer in our relationship.

Each week, we carve out dedicated time to sit together, reflect, and align. No distractions, no multitasking—just us. During this time, we focus on:

✅ Celebrating wins – What went well in our relationship this week? Where did we show up for each other?

✅ Discussing areas for improvement – Are there any tensions we need to address? Where can we communicate better?

✅ Aligning on our values – Are we living in a way that reflects what truly matters to us as a couple?

✅ Planning the week ahead – From logistics to quality time, we make sure we’re on the same page.

Why It’s Working Wonders

This simple practice has:

Deepened our connection – We’re more present and intentional with each other.

Boosted intimacy – When we feel emotionally connected, physical closeness follows.

Reduced stress – Fewer miscommunications, more clarity, and a smoother week ahead.

We have found that this dedicated time builds our commitment, it gives us both an invitation to ask for needs to be met or to discuss past hurts and the byproduct of that is priceless! The more vulnerable we are the deeper our connection is.

We all get busy, but love thrives in intentionality. This habit has made our relationship stronger, and I know it can do the same for yours.
